In recent years, new details surrounding his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith have continued to keep the family in the public eye, particularly after Jada revealed the pair had been living ‘completely different’ lives since 2016.
Speaking candidly during an interview with Today, Jada reflected on the state of their relationship.
“Why it fractured… that – that’s a lot of things,” she said. “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
At the same time, their children, Jaden and Willow, have each built successful careers of their own. From starring roles in films to success in music, both have grown up in front of audiences worldwide, showing the Smith family influence stretches far beyond Will and Jada themselves.
Growing up in the spotlight
Will and Jada, who married in 1997, share two children together: Jaden and Willow. Smith also has an older son, Trey, from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino.
All three of Smith’s children have established careers in entertainment.
Jaden first gained recognition in film, appearing alongside his father in The Pursuit of Happiness and After Earth, though many fans know him best for starring in The Karate Kid.
He later expanded into music, releasing his debut album Syre in 2017 and earning a Grammy nomination in 2022 for Album of the Year after appearing on Justin Bieber’s Justice.
Willow also found major success in music. Her breakout 2010 track Whip My Hair climbed to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, while her 2015 song Wait A Minute! later exploded in popularity on TikTok and earned widespread acclaim.
